FUN GAMES IN ENGLISH CLUB

Hello and good day, this is your reporter speaking, Xandra, and I’m here to tell you all the things we do in English Club. Since I am in 7th grade, I will talk about the things that happen in the 7th grade room. For the rest of the class, the other reporters will handle it. So, without any further ado, let’s get into it! The first thing that you need to know, that this week’s class (for 7th grade) is taught by Mrs. Seti! I don’t know a lot about her, but she is a native teacher, meaning that she isn’t from Indonesia. Today’s class is about having fun and playing games! The game is called “Guess the Object that has been Described”.

Mrs. Seti divides the class into two groups; girls and boys. From the groups, Mrs. Seti also picks some head students (a.k.a. the ones who describes). From the girls-group, there are Celine and Fanny, and from the boys-group, there are Tian and Elstan. Now, how to play the game is really simple. One of the head students describes an object and the other head student or even the members from the other group will have to try and guess what it is. Whoever gets it right will win and get a point! If they decide to give up because they don’t know the answer, then they will lose and get 0 points.

After the rules are settled and everyone understand the game, it is GAME ON! The boys go first, and Tian describes something. He describes an object that is made of foam and it’s used to sit. And luckily, the girls get it right. Yup, you guess it, the answer is SOFA! After Tian says, “It’s a place for people to sit on”, it is obviously some kind of chair. Since it’s made of foam, we all suspect that the answer is sofa. For round 1, the girls win by 1-0.

The second round, it’s the girls' turn. And oh boy, this is one of my favorites. Fanny is the one who describes this object. Well, it’s more like a movie than an object. It is one of my most super-duper favorite movie of all time. She describes that it is made by JK. Rowling and the nickname of the boy in that movie is the boy who’s lived/chosen one. I’m pretty sure almost all of you can guess it by now. If you didn’t know, JK Rowling is a famous writer, and until now she’s still famous (not so, but okay) for her writings. And yup you guess it again, it’s Harry Potter! I squeals when Fanny describes that, I know the answer but since I’m a girl, I cannot answer it. The boys take a long time to think but their answer is correct anyway, 1-1. Good job for both groups!

There are still many rounds, but I have a feeling it may be too many if I told you one by one. Well, the conclusion for today is, FUN, FUN, FUNNN!!!! It is really fun playing games and stuff, not just a boring old class. Even if we play some games, we still learn some things as well. We get new knowledge from our friends. We also make some interactions even though it’s not person to person. Today is fun and I’m looking forward to the next class, wondering if it will be as fun as today or even more! Sadly, my report has to end, it is fun to write this report and I hope you all have fun in reading it too. Oh, and hey, you should consider joining the English club as well, it’s super amazing and plus you’re taught by native teachers every week! Well, that’s all for now. Thank you and have a wonderful day. (Alexandra Sathya Dewi-7C1-02)

Are Zoos Needed?

Today in English club was pretty fun! Our class did another debate with Mr Emmet. Me, Grace, Grecia vs Maiika, Raymond & Nawa. Our topic for today is pros and cons if school starts at 9 am and pros and cons about zoo. I was a bit confused on preparing the material but me, Grace & Grecia texted each other to prepare our debate.

The first round begins and our team is on the pros side. We tried to make up all excuses on the debate and Grace helped us to defend our team. The boys also did a great job on the second round they have good excuses which I kind of agree with them. I tried to defend our team but turns out it’s a lost. At the end our team got a draw. Audrey and Marsha give their opinion of the debate. It’s a great experience of debate. We all said goodbye to Mr emmet and Sir Djati. (Valerie-8C3)

Robin Hood, Good or Bad Person?

Today's English Club topic is about good people and bad people, and this time we are divided into two groups for debates, boys-group and girls-group. Today’s topic is about good sides and bad sides of Robin Hood. This time the debate is represented by Harvey, Ella, Evan, and AJ.

Robin Hood is a British nobleman. He buys weapons and fights against his Kingdom, and settles wars between his kingdom with another kingdom.  As it is so, he always says that he doesn’t come from any kingdom and doesn’t stand for anybody.  He says that the government of the kingdom does not care about their people, and for this reason, Robin Hood fights against the kingdom for the people.

Rich people, and part of them are persons who sit as government, in England are wasting money for unimportant things. They take tax from people, but they don’t care about them. That’s why Robin hood is very angry and steals from the rich and gives what he has stolen to the poor. In the story of Robin Hood, he was underestimated by people at first. But what he did made the government annoyed and in fact, they could not defeat Robin Hood. Robin Hood said that he would rather die defending the poor than die as a dishonorable nobleman.

The debate is set as pros and cons. The pros’ side thinks that Robin Hood is a hero, while the cons’ say that Robin Hood is a criminal. He is called as a hero because he stands for the poor, who are badly ruled by the kingdom and its government. From the cons-side, it is said that Robin Hood is a criminal, since stealing is a crime, no matter the reasons are.

The debate runs further and getting more exciting when one of the contestants equalizes the situation in England at that time with the era when Japan ruled Indonesia before the independence. All participants try to defend their opinion by giving reasons and facts. It’s really an interesting debate! (Ignatius Rakya-9C5-10).
